Tempranillo

Tempranillo

TASTING NOTES
Tempranillo is the dominant grape varietal used in making rustic reds blends in its native country of Spain.  This wine was crafted from Tempranillo grapes grown in the Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley.    It expresses compelling aromas of cherry and plum backed with hints of vanilla and tanned leather.  On the palate it is rich and savory with lingering red fruit and a structured finish.  With 16 months of barrel aging, this wine drinks well now and will continue to develop with bottle age.

VINEYARDS
The Tempranillo grapes were grown at Cave B Vineyards near George located in the Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley AVA of Washington.  The vineyard is planted on very fine sandy loam soils that were formed from a basalt lime-silica material.  The well-drained soils create great conditions to grow wine grapes with careful irrigation management.  The northern location and 1,300 feet elevation of the vineyard site result in “cooler” growing conditions.  This creates a wine that is aromatic with ripe berry notes and helps express the varietal characteristics of the Tempranillo grapes.

WINEMAKING
Our winemaking philosophy is to create wines with balance, character and longevity.  This philosophy drives all winemaking decisions from harvest to bottle.  The result is an elegantly styled wine that is an expression of the grape varietal and the vineyards from where they are grown.

Albariño

TASTING NOTES
Albariño is a Spanish white grape varietal predominantly grown in Spain and Portugal.  It is refreshing and highly aromatic with a food friendly reputation.  Although this wine is from grapes grown in the Ancient Lakes of the Columbia Valley, it is true to these traits.  This Albariño is bursting with aromas of apple blossoms, pear and citrus nuances.  With just a touch of sweetness on the front end of the palate, it is impressively elegant with bright fruit flavors of white peach, lemon and tropical fruit all backed by a wonderfully balanced acidity and a light effervescence on the finish.  Enjoy this Northwest rendering of a Spanish classic with your favorite appetizer, shellfish and grilled fish.

VINEYARDS
The grapes are from the famed Evergreen Vineyard located in the Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley AVA near George.  The northern location and 1,300 feet elevation of the vineyard site result in “cooler” growing conditions.  This creates a white wine that is intensely aromatic and retains refreshing, food friendly acidity.  The silt loam soils and calcium rich caliche hardpan of this vineyard contribute to the unique complexity of the wine.

Bishop's Block

Bishop's Block

TASTING NOTES
This is a single vineyard wine from the south block of Bishop’s Vineyard located near Quincy, WA.  This block is a mix planting of Syrah, Mourvedrè and Grenache. At harvest these grapes are picked together and blended in the field prior to arriving at the winery. The co-fermentation of these grapes creates a seamless wine rich in color and flavor. Aromas of blueberry and boysenberry are complimented with hints of clove and floral notes. On the palate, the dark berry flavors are supported with a supple texture and lingering finish. As a field blend, this wine has depth and complexity while showcasing the uniqueness of the vineyard.

VINEYARDS
The grapes for this wine are from Bishop’s Vineyard located in the Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley AVA.  Located above the Columbia River on a narrow bench of land on Babcock Ridge, the vineyard is uniquely situated at an elevation of 1,000 feet and sits adjacent to towering basalt cliffs. Despite the vineyards northern latitude and elevation, its microclimate is slightly warmer in comparison to other vineyard sites in the Ancient Lakes area where we source grapes. The basalt cliffs heat up during the day and radiate that heat to the vineyard late in the day as the ambient air begins to cool. This aids in ripening the grapes and produces wines with ripe dark berry notes. The soils are mainly wind blown loess, a very fine sandy loam over basalt. The structure of these soils help to reduce vine vigor and produce high quality fruit year after year.

Gabriel's Horn

Gabriel's Horn

TASTING NOTES
This rich red blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Syrah combines the divine qualities of an earthy and spicy Syrah with the power of a bold Cabernet Sauvignon.  It is smooth and full-bodied with notes of pepper and spice complimented with flavors of black cherry, marionberry and subtle hints of oak.  The nose dazzles you with aromas of currant, pomegranate and clove.  Enjoy this wine’s bold yet seductive nature.

VINEYARDS
Cabernet Sauvignon was sourced from Vino Belissimo Vineyard.  Located in the Wahluke Slope AVA, this vineyard is well suited to fully ripen Cabernet Sauvignon consistently year after year.  The vineyard is planted on loamy sand soils with a close vine spacing of 3 feet between each vine.  This helps produce intensely flavored fruit as there are more vines per acre and thus each plant ripens a smaller number of clusters.  The Syrah is from Sunset Vineyard in the Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley AVA.  The northern location and 1,300 feet elevation of the vineyard site result in “cooler” growing conditions.  This creates a syrah wine that is aromatic with black pepper and red berry characteristics.  The silt loam soils and calcium rich caliche hardpan of this vineyard contribute to the unique complexity of the wine.
